Technology 1910-1919
As part of our series on Historic Victoria Advertisements, Technology, 1910-1919, here are two 1913 advertisements for Edison Blue Amberol records, sold at Fletcher Brothers, 1231 Government Street, and Montelius Piano House, 1104 Government Street.
Edison Blue Amberol records were introduced in 1912 and were manufactured until 1929, when Edison Records ceased business.

Although Fletcher Brothers and the Montelius Piano House have long since gone out of business, the buildings in which their businesses operated in 1913 are still standing.
Montelius Piano House was located in what is now 1102 Government Street:
The Southgate-Laschelles Building, 1102 Government Street/530 Fort Street, built circa 1869 for J.J. Southgate and H.D. Laschelles
Fletcher Brothers was located in what is now 1227 -1233 Government Street:
This commercial building at 1223-1227 and 1233 Government Street was likely built in the late 19th century. It is currently home to Roots (1227 Government) and Sasquatch Trading (1233 Government)
