As part of our series on Historic Victoria Advertisements, Beer, Wine & Liquor, here is a 1939 advertisement for Phoenix Lager, brewed by the Victoria Phoenix Brewing Company at 1921 Government Street, between Chatham Street and Discovery Street.

Note the “For Home Delivery Phone G 4179”. The days of calling a brewery and having your beer delivered directly to your home are long gone.

The Victoria Phoenix Brewing Company was located at 1921 Government Street. Its building was demolished in the 1980’s.
