As part of our series on Historic Victoria Advertisements, Businesses, here is an 1879 advertisement for Goodacre & Dooley Butchers, located at what is now 1325-1327 Government Street.
Goodacre Butchers operated for decades from this location. Emily Carr, in her Book of Small, recalls visiting Goodacre’s during her childhood and being disgusted by the sides of meat on display inside.
Goodacre’s Butchers was run by Lawrence Goodacre, who also served on Victoria City Council. Goodacre Lake in Beacon Hill Park is named for Lawrence Goodacre.
