Historic Victoria Advertisements
Real Estate  1910-1919

Here is a 1912 advertisement for the then newly subdivided lots in the Avondale subdivision, which is now the area around Avondale Road, Henderson Road and Cedar Hill X Road in Oak Bay, near the boundary separating Oak Bay from Saanich.

The Victoria Gardens, Ltd., the company selling these subdivided lots, was located in the Sayward Building, 1201-1213 Douglas Street, in downtown Victoria.

Notice the offer of two entries for each purchaser in a lottery for a “BUNGALOW TO COST TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS” or “TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS IN COLD CASH”.

Today this is considered a very desirable area and there would be no need of lotteries or other inducement to prospective buyers.

Here is a map showing the location of Avondale Road, which this 1912 subdivision was named for.
