A Brief History of 1625 Store Street

This small three storey building at 1615 Store Street was built in 1913 by architect Milo S. Farwell as a warehouse for the Scott & Peden feed and grain company, which had also retained Milo Farwell to design and build the adjacent structure at 506 Pandora Avenue, now Swan’s Hotel & Brewpub.

1615 Store Street was originally built as a two storey building. The original building permit, issued to Scott & Peden by the City of Victoria in September 1913, describes it as two storey addition, with an estimated construction cost of $3,000, to the larger Scott & Peden warehouse building (now 506 Pandora Avenue) which was already under construction.

1615 Store Street is now legally consolidated with the adjacent Swan’s Hotel & Brewpub at 506 Pandora Avenue. Both buildings were renovated into Swan’s Hotel & Brewpub by Micheal Williams in the 1980’s.

Micheal Williams bequeathed the Swan’s Hotel & Brewpub to the University of Victoria, which still owns it today.
