A Brief History of 529 Pandora Avenue

529 Pandora Avenue is listed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places as the Tye Chong Building. Although this building is adjacent to the Market Square complex it is not legally consolidated into Market Square.

529 Pandora Avenue was built in 1884 and was originally used by Tye Chong, a Chinese owned grocery. It was later occupied by the BC Produce Company, whose name still appears on the building facade.

It originally had a verandah (now removed) which also served as a balcony for the second floor. The door on the second floor of the facade is evidence of the original verandah.
