A Brief History of 1195 Fort Street

1195 Fort Street was built in 1903 by architects Thomas Hooper and C. Elwood Watkins for Effie Galena Kilpatrick (1879-1911).

Effie Kilpatrick lived here until her death in 1911, after which there were several subsequent owners.

In 1929 the house was converted in a five suite apartment building known as the Marylyn Apartments, which catered to widows and single women.

The building was Heritage Designated in 1977.

In 1998, the house was severely damaged by fire. The owners, Dr. Robert Ruzicka and Dr. Frank Van Gyn, both dentists, undertook a restoration of the house, which was given an award by the Hallmark Society.

It is now occupied by a dental practice.
