This six storey building on Victoria’s Inner Harbour was built in 1906 by architects Thomas Hooper and C. Elwood Watkins as a head office and warehouse for Pither & Leiser Ltd., a liquor and wine wholesale and importing firm.

Pither & Leiser has a claim to some distinction in Victoria architectural history. Three Pither & Leiser buildings, including this one at 1019 Wharf Street, are on Victoria’s Heritage Register, a feat unmatched by any other firm we are aware of.

The other two Pither & Leiser buildings on Victoria’s Heritage Register are 533 Yates Street and 535 Yates Street.
