A Brief History of 1325 – 1327 Government Street

1325-1327 Government Street is the site of Goodacre’s Butcher shop, which operated here in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

City of Victoria records suggest the current building on the site was built in 1901 but other evidence suggests that this building, or at least portions of it, is the original Goodacre’s Butcher shop, dating from the 1870’s and possibly before.

Artist Emily Carr mentioned Goodacre’s Butcher shop in her Book Of Small, published in 1945.
